Multi-Agent Narrative Experience Management as Story Graph Pruning

In interactive narratives, experience management is used to control the world and NPCs a player interacts with, encouraging particular types of stories or discouraging others. The space all in narrative can be understood as story graph, with states nodes actions directed edges. this paper, we present graph pruning problem. Starting full edges representing NPC may pruned until there at most one action per state. With available, choice what prune consider possible futures, ensure that undesirable are not reachable. By never actions, make any still accommodated story. When method was manage an adventure game, players found our technique generally produced higher agency more-believable behaviors than control. Finally, discuss scaling results for practical use.
